Darla Nassif “Tlcgaittrainer.com” was the Director of Training at Montana’s Mountain Magic Ranch, home to over 240 Rocky Mountain and Mountain horses including 9 Stallions for five years. Where she developed a program for building a relationship with horses and a safe trail riding program that has rocketed in population.
Darla now resides in Arroyo Grande CA and is available to help horses with people issues. Darla can be reached at Rockin Rocky's Ranch owned by Glenda Charrette. Darla and Glenda have a partnership that has success written all over it. Glenda loves this breed and owns a wonderful ranch near the Pismo Dunes where riding is a dream come true. Darla and Glenda have a few very select Rocky's for sale that are trained and approved by Darla for safe trail partners. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity to own a trail partner that knows how to think and ride safe.
Darla was brought up with horses and ponies and has been working with them since she was 10. She was a dairy farmer’s daughter in New York State, where they used horses for working in the fields. As a youth she worked at a Dude Ranch making sure the dude horses were trained and gentle for the riders. Later, at her uncle’s ranch, The Country Gentleman Stables in Redlands Florida. Darla taught riding lessons to youngsters, worked with the Pony Club, drove teams pulling hayrides and took dressage and jumping lessons.
After visiting, then moving to California (where she met her husband), Darla started training and working with horses there. Following a move to Colorado she worked at Rocky Mountain Cattle Movers Snowmass Colorado. Darla Drove a team of Percherons took people on cattle drives, worked with the dude string to keep them gentle and gave people lessons on how to ride from the start. In 1987 Darla met a client with two Rocky Mountain geldings that needed to be trained. She was very impressed with this breed for the willingness, smooth gait, desire to be close to people and curiosity level at first, then realizing how easy and willing they are to be trained. After training this clients horses Darla and Connie purchased a few mares and two stallions and began an ad venture. Darla met more people interested in Rocky Mountain Horses and became partners with another client. Together they started Sharocks Gaited Mountian Horses in Parachute Colorado. They raised and trained many beautiful Mountain horses and had hundreds of happy clients on a waiting list for foals and horses trained by Darla. As time passed Darla held clinics for clients at Sharocks Ranch. Darla also got interested in the Gaited Mustang herds and started working with mustangs including a beautiful mustang stallion named Rio D Ungusto. Darla was asked to do clinics in other states by people referred by her clients. Darla began to travel and meet people in various areas, which led up to her being offered premier positions at some of the larger ranches in the East. Darla trained for ranches in Arkansas, North Carolina and Georgia before finding her home in Montana. Darla competed successfully winning many ribbons and awards on the Eastern show circuit as well as the RMHA International show and the UMH World Show in Kentucky with both her own and her client’s gaited horses, Darla training interest is with natural methods and is not an advocate of the use of devices, special shoeing, soreing and pain methods of training horses to gait
Over the years, Darla attended clinics of her peers and made special friendships with Roy Yates, Linda Tellington-Jones, John Lyons (who was her neighbor for five years) Monte Roberts, Richard Shrake, Ray Hunt, Buck Branaman, Buck Buchannon, H.T. and Wilda Derrickson, Derrick Tipton, Liz Graves, Clinton Anderson, and Pat and Linda Parelli, Paula Morgan, Rea and David Swan and many Mountain horse trainers that also use natural training techniques. Darla has developed a unique training method that begins with Parelli style of natural training and incorporates into her own natural methods of imprinting gait without devises or manipulation. | |||||
